Knowing on Monday, telling no one
On Monday you are told, in confidence, about changes to your team that will be announced on Wednesday morning. Two days of knowing follow, at a desk among people who do not. You need not lie: if a colleague asks whether something is going on, say there is nothing you can share yet, which is true. On Wednesday, with the Moon newly in Gemini and the whole office talking, the news is out by ten. The rest of the week is for the questions.
Love
Supper on Tuesday may be quiet, and the person across the table from you may ask why. Tell them the truth as far as it goes: there is something at work you cannot discuss until Wednesday, and it has nothing to do with them. One sentence, and an evening of guessing is spared. On Wednesday night, tell them the rest.
Work and money
After Wednesday’s announcement, colleagues may come to you, partly because you seem calm and partly because they suspect you knew. Do not pretend otherwise. Say you were asked to keep it quiet, and did. Then be useful: on Thursday, answer the practical questions you can, write down the ones you cannot, and take that list to your manager by Friday.
Body and mind
A secret held for two days settles in the jaw and the back of the neck. On Monday and Tuesday evenings, walk for an hour in the dark with your hands in your pockets and nothing in your ears. Eat lunch away from your desk. On Saturday, sleep until you wake, then go somewhere wide and quiet, a reservoir or a long beach, and say nothing for an hour.
