Spanish on Tuesday nights
Next spring there is a trip to Andalucía, so far mostly described over dinner, and on Tuesday evening you start Spanish at the adult college: beginners, room fourteen. By Wednesday you may be greeting the kettle in Spanish. Thursday’s homework is twenty verbs, roughly nineteen more than you planned to learn. By Sunday you could order a coffee, apologise and ask the way to the station, which covers most of what travel ever requires.

A classroom of twelve strangers on a Tuesday night is a fine place to begin, if you are single, and whoever laughs at the same mistakes as you may be worth a drink after class. In a couple, your partner is about to hear a great deal of Spanish over breakfast. Teach them five words they can use back, including the one for “enough”.
Work and money
Candid feedback is what a manager asks for on Wednesday, about a new process, and they may mean it slightly less than you hope. Give it anyway, once, in writing: what works, what does not, and one change that would help. Keep it to a paragraph. The joke about the process that occurs to you mid-meeting is very good, and much better saved for Friday night with friends.
Body and mind
Evenings in a classroom after a day at a desk add up to a great deal of sitting. Walk to class if you can, briskly. Learning something new is more tiring than it looks; if you are asleep by half past ten on Tuesday, that is your head filing verbs. On Sunday, take the bike out for a long ride and count the hills in Spanish.
